Victoria University staff to strike.
Oct. 17, 2022
Te Herenga Waka | Victoria University staff will walk off the job for two hours tomorrow, immediately following a forum being held by new Vice Chancellor Nic Smith and attended by a strong contingent of union members.
Kaiwhakahaere | Organiser Nicki Wilford says “Victoria University staff are increasingly frustrated at the university administration’s continuing refusal to increase their pay offer. We want to show the incoming Vice Chancellor the depth of staff discontent he is inheriting and for him to hear their voices loud and clear.”
“Of particular concern to our members is the fact that tutors are still facing a 0% offer despite having to live with the uncertainty of not having permanent employment on top of low pay. This is no way to treat people, especially those who in most cases are post graduate students and recent graduates of this university.”
“We call on Nic Smith to listen and intervene. The university needs to come back to the table with a significantly improved offer or this campaign is just getting started.”
TEU members will rally outside the forum venue, the Kirk Lecture Theatre 303, at 11:30 and strike until 1:30pm.
