DATABASE & MEMBERSHIP OFFICER
PŌNEKE|WELLINGTON - FULL-TIME
Te Hautū Kahurangi | Tertiary Education Union (TEU) is the union for people who work in tertiary education across Aotearoa. We are a strong, democratic organisation that takes collective action to improve our members' working lives and to influence the future of public tertiary education.
About the role
Our members are at the heart of everything we do, and so is our membership data. When a new member joins, they should be welcomed, counted and connected to their branch and networks quickly. When they have a question about their subscription, it should be sorted promptly. Our bargaining, organising, communications and democratic processes all depend on accurate, current data. This role makes sure all of that happens.
As our Database and Membership Officer, you'll own the membership database and keep things running smoothly day to day:
- Processing new memberships, updates and lapsed members promptly and accurately
- Keeping records clean and current through data entry, removing duplicates and maintaining contact lists
- Uploading payroll schedules and reconciling subscriptions and deductions
- Producing membership reporting and analysis, including trends and density, so the union can make data-driven decisions
- Being a friendly, reliable point of contact for members through our membership inbox
- Spotting ways to improve our systems and processes, and making them happen
Improving our systems
This is also an exciting time to join. Our current database, CiviCRM, isn't working as well as it could, and we're investigating a move to a new CRM platform. You'll help us get the most out of the system we have now, and you'll play a key part in planning and delivering the move to a better one.
About you
You're highly capable with databases and genuinely tech-savvy. You care about getting the details right, because you know every record is a real member. You're as happy doing careful data entry as you are solving a tricky problem or finding a better way to do things.
You'll bring:
- Strong database skills with any CRM, membership, finance or other database system. Experience with any database is valued.
- A proven ability to solve problems, and fresh, practical ideas
- A high level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Strong Excel skills, including data cleansing and reconciliation
- The ability to manage regular deadlines and competing priorities
- Clear, friendly communication, including explaining technical things in plain language
It would be great if you also have:
- Experience working in or with a union, or a strong commitment to the union movement
- Experience with data migration or system implementation projects
- SQL, reporting or data analysis skills
