Hau Taki Haere | Tertiary Update Vol 29, No 5

May Day is a time to commemorate both the struggles and gains made by workers and the labour movement. And when working people unite and fight back against bad government policies, we create change and transform society for the better.

This is the most anti-worker government that we’ve seen in decades. They are attacking us by removing personal grievance rights for many workers, trying to divide us by attacking Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and they are starving government services like tertiary education funding.

We won’t let them get away with it. We must fight back.

Based on the success of the nationwide hui led by the Council of Trade Unions on the 23rd of October last year, our union will again participate in Maranga Ake | Fight Back Together hui across the country on 1 May to fight back against the government’s ongoing attacks on workers and on our sector.

We are calling on all our members to come out in force and send a strong message to those in power that we demand better for tertiary education and for Aotearoa.

A full list of times and venues can be found here.

When we fight back together, we win.
