Strike vote sparks more growth.

Two weeks ago, Te Hautū Kahurangi | Tertiary Education Union reported membership numbers rapidly rising, but last week the members rolled in even faster with over 175 new joins on the back of news that a strike vote was imminent.

At Te Herenga Waka | Victoria University of Wellington alone, over 30 new members joined TEU on the spot at last Wednesday’s paid stop work meeting, attended by over 400 university staff.

Kaiwhakahaere | branch organiser Nicki Wilford says “the turnout at our paid union meeting was incredible, but what was even more encouraging was the spirit and solidarity shown by everyone present. Victoria University members are ready for action and that sense of power and purpose clearly translated into non-members seeing something they want to be part of.”

“Now is the time to join – the more people we have on board the more effective any strike action we take will be and the more everyone will benefit from this campaign. All members should be talking to their non-union friends about coming aboard.”
