Strike ballot underway at Unitec.

Te Hautū Kahurangi | Tertiary Education Union members at Te Whare Wānanga o Wairaka | Unitec are participating in a strike ballot this week.

TEU organiser Adam Craigie says while some progress has been made in negotiations on matters other than pay, the employer has been unwilling to move at all from its low pay offer since negotiations got underway back in March.

“We understand that all local negotiations are overseen by Te Pūkenga, as they are the employer, and ultimately the underlying issue is one of inadequate funding, but this must be addressed.”

“Funding problems don’t change the fact that our members living costs are increasing the same as everyone else’s and they deserve a pay rise that takes this into account.”

The ballot opened on Monday and closes at midday this Thursday.
