Member spotlight - Steve Dennis.

Steve Dennis is a tutor in the plumbing gas fitting and drain laying team at Weltec in Petone. He is also a TEU delegate.

“My favourite part of my work would be passing on my knowledge and experience to the apprentices and watching them develop through the course of their apprenticeship. The biggest challenge for me has been transitioning from being self-employed and on the tools, to being set in one place, sitting at a desk.

“I have been in the union for the majority of my time at Weltec; around 18 months now. I joined because it felt like being a part of the union would help me navigate through the processes and procedures we have in place, and it was comforting to know I had someone to talk to if needed.

“I decided to become a delegate so I can be that person who is there if somebody just wants to talk or needs advice. I believe as a union we have the opportunity to help improve our members work experience.”

Each fortnight we want to profile members from across the motu in our member spotlight – if you’re keen to tell your work and union story, get in touch!
