Pay Equity claims arguable.

Te Hautū Kahurangi | Tertiary Education Union has received written agreement from the eight university Vice Chancellors that our two separate multi-employer and multi-union claims under the Equal Pay Act 1972 for low paid library, clerical, and administration workers in the university sector are “arguable”.

The next stage of the process includes notification by the employers to all staff covered by the claim, union and non-union, informing them of the claim. This should take place in the next twenty working days.

Te Pou Whirinaki | National Women’s Officer Sarah Proctor-Thomson says “now the hard mahi starts. Our multi-union team are meeting the employers for the first time on 27 April to begin the assessment phase.”

“It’s vital that we are all talking to non-union colleagues during this time to make sure they know these claims are being raised by TEU members for their benefit. We need them to join us and make sure their work experience and knowledge informs the claims that will have a positive impact on them and their families.”
