#TEU2025 – To lead towards what is precious.
May 13, 2025
Te Hautū Kahurangi | Tertiary Education Union is excited to be kicking off its annual conference at Pōneke’s Brentwood Hotel next week. This year’s theme is Te Hautū Kahurangi | To lead towards what is precious and it will be our first ‘goals conference’ in five years.
Tumu Whakarae – Māori | National President – Māori Huhana Watene says “a goals conference is an opportunity for members to shape the future aspirations of their union.”
“While it has not been an easy five years since the last goal setting was carried out by members, TEU has grown in strength and influence in a range of ways.”
“Our work together resulted in Labour investing extra money into the tertiary education sector in 2023, inclusion of regional provision requirements in the Te Pūkenga charter, improvements in pay and conditions, and increased membership numbers.”
“But the election of the National-led government brings new challenges that we must face together.”
“The union will endure beyond any government of the day – we must think boldly and long-term to make the most impact for all members.”
