TEU members to invoice for losses due to pay gaps.

Te Hautū Kahurangi | Tertiary Education Union will mark International Working Women’s Day this Friday (note the actual day falls on Saturday this year) by generating invoices for lost pay due to Aotearoa’s gender and ethnic pay gaps.

Last year, TEU calculated that due to the almost 20% gender and ethnic pay gap with all men, Pasifika women effectively worked for free for the rest of 2024 starting from 27 September.

Based on the same calculations, wāhine Māori effectively worked for free from 14 October, for other ethnic women it was 15 October, for Asian women it was 21st October and all Aotearoa working women worked for free from 20 November last year.

The National-led coalition government disestablished the Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment’s Pay Equity Taskforce last June.

TEU members are encouraged to download the invoice, fill it out, take a picture of yourself with it and send it to bronwyn.larkins@teu.ac.nz.
