MECA campaign begins for polytechnics.
Oct. 29, 2025
Since 2022 Te Hautū Kahurangi | Tertiary Education Union has had a single employment agreement covering academics at all former Institutes of Technology and Polytechnics, and in 2024 we extended coverage to include administrative and allied roles.
Now that Te Pūkenga is in the process of being disestablished, we are seeking to negotiate a multi-employer collective agreement (MECA) to ensure all Te Pūkenga members have the right to negotiate with full collective strength.
To kick things off, we want to hear your ideas. We’re running a claims survey intended to provide all members the opportunity to put your priorities on the table so when we meet together we can make informed choices about what we want to achieve in negotiations.
Beyond being asked to identify what branch you are based at and if you are in an academic or allied role, your responses are completely anonymous.
In November, branches will be holding paid union meetings as per Section 26 of the ERA – these will be claims meetings within work time. There you will receive the results of the survey and have a further opportunity to decide what to prioritise at the next negotiations.
If you are a TEU member in the Te Pūkenga network and you haven’t received an invitation to participate in the claims survey, please email teu@teu.ac.nz.
