Developing Member Leaders.
Nov. 12, 2025
A continued focus on member engagement and activism has seen delegate numbers continue to grow across our union. Over 300 delegates have now completed our Level 1 courses, with a significant number also having completed Level 2.
Our new Level 3 course – Developing Member Leaders – is now up and running with two courses held recently in Kirikiriroa | Hamilton and Te Whanganui-a-Tara | Wellington; and two more to come over the next couple of weeks in Tamaki Makaurau | Auckland and Te Papa-i-Oea | Palmerston North.
This course is aimed at members who have completed Level 1 & 2 courses and those who hold leadership roles in TEU – whether at the branch level or on a national committee, council, or as a network lead. It focuses on our union values, various types of leadership models and skills, storytelling as a way of engaging with others, and how to link our member leaders with union priority campaigns.
Yvonne Maru, Student Advisor – Youth Pathways at Wintec says “completing Level 3 delegate training has helped to empower me, to find strength to battle discrimination, bullying and inequity in the workplace. I re-discovered my leadership skills and potential, igniting my passion to support and grow our TEU members. As a result, I am a strong, soft-power, Pasifika wahine with a disability that has goals to move TEU and its members, forward.”
We are currently working on finalising course dates for 2026 in the various regions across the motu, so if you are interested or have any queries please email Megan Morris; Te Pou Maturanga me Te Pou Ahumahi | Education and Industrial Campaigns Officer.
