Consolidated collective agreement for Te Pūkenga.

Te Hautū Kahurangi | Tertiary Education Union has reached a signed Terms of Settlement with Te Pūkenga for a consolidated collective agreement for all academic staff within the organisation, and allied staff covered by existing collective agreements at MIT, UCOL, and Otago Polytechnic. The new collective agreement was developed through a working party to ensure that no TEU member will lose any terms or conditions of employment as a result of the establishment of the single network of vocational education.

If ratified, the new collective agreement will cover over 2,500 TEU members and become the biggest single collective agreement in our union.

Michelle Watt, General Staff Vice Chair of TEU’s Otago Polytechnic Branch, describes the new consolidated collective agreement as “a huge achievement for the TEU, to get this across the line subject to ratification.”

“I’m really happy, and full of excitement. I think this will give us more power, especially for allied/general staff, to push hard in the future for parity of pay and conditions for Te Pūkenga staff across Aotearoa. It’s absolutely wonderful.”

Paid union meetings are now underway across the Te Pūkenga network, where the proposed new collective agreement and Terms of Settlement are being presented to members.
