Sept. 2, 2025
This week marks the start of Branch General Meeting season. One of the things that takes place at these important hui, is the endorsement of new delegates.
Delegates are crucial to maintaining a strong and effective union. They are endorsed/elected representatives of the members in your workplace and carry out many important activities like:
- Encouraging members to understand their rights and responsibilities;
- Building our union through whanaungatanga, recruitment and activism in your work area;
- Provide information and support for members;
- Being a conduit for TEU Networks and building union influence in workplace decisions that affect members across our sector e.g. Climate Action, Queer Delegates.
Tumu Whakarae – Māori | National President – Māori Huhana Watene says “he mihi mahana kia koutou nga mema, as Tumu Whakarae: Māori my koha is, any opportunity for members to be educated in the workings of their union and ensure they are empowered with knowledge to assist other members at their branch or a TEU committee is invaluable.”
“Being prepared enables members to contribute from the ground up. TEU Networks and Advisory Groups are member-led and demonstrate the importance of member voices. If you have an opportunity, please take up the challenge and be an active part of your union, TEU – it is extremely empowering whānau.”
