TEU welcomes Jennifer Jeffery.

Te Hautū Kahurangi | Tertiary Education Union has welcomed a new staff member, Kaiwhakahaere | Organiser Jennifer Jeffery, to our Ōtepoti | Dunedin office.

Born and raised in Ōtepoti, Jennifer got involved with the TEU during her time as an archivist at Te Whare Wānanga o Ōtākou | The University of Otago and loved it so much that when an organiser job came up she jumped at the chance.

“I enjoy union work! Even in my younger days working in retail at an un-unionised workplace, I got a lot of satisfaction from advocating for myself and my colleagues. It’s empowering to learn about workers’ rights and being able to make a difference when armed with knowledge. I’m really looking forward to being able to do that for a job and having the resources behind me to do what I love well.”

“My new role working with TEU members across Otago and Southland will have lots of variety and gives me an opportunity to understand all the different issues workers face and the different needs they might have in different parts of the region like Invercargill and Cromwell. It will also be interesting to see how Te Pūkenga develops and do everything I can to ensure our members get the best from the changes they face.”

“Everyone in the TEU is super lovely, and my induction has been wonderful so far, even though it’s a really busy time for the union. I just can’t wait to get stuck in and advocate for people!”
