Briefing to the Incoming Minister.

Like the rest of Aotearoa, Te Hautū Kahurangi | Tertiary Education Union is keenly awaiting the formation of our next government. Of particular interest will be the appointment of a new minister and to see which of National and ACT’s tertiary education policies survive the coalition negotiations with each other and New Zealand First.

Tumu Whakarae | National President Dr Julie Douglas says “while our institutions rank strongly internationally, their capacity to deliver for businesses, communities, and learners is in decline. Whatever shape the next government takes, TEU is ready and willing to talk, provide advice and work alongside anyone who wants to improve our sector.”

As we have done after previous elections, TEU is preparing a comprehensive ‘Briefing to the Incoming Minister,’ that will set out the key actions that need to be applied across both short- and long-term timeframes and the rationale for these recommendations. This year’s document will cover two major areas of focus we believe must be addressed with some urgency – funding and academic freedom.

The briefing will be provided to the relevant Ministers shortly after they are sworn in. It will also be made publicly available at that time.
