Kia ora te whanau ō Te Hautū Kahurangi.
I would like to seek your support in my goal of becoming the Academic Rep on the National Women’s Committee.
Having worked at Massey University for the past five years, the previous 15 years at other universities, I have seen and experienced the ideals and the reality for women working within this sector. For instance; the dificulty of parenting while studying or working, the expectaions of collegueges and institutions placed differently on women, promotions that have overlooked women despite their contribution and payscales that haven’t been equitable.
As a woman that relates to being wahine toa, (a strong and determined Mōari woman), and comes from a long line of other wahine toa, I would like to offer my strength and experience towards working collaboratively to create a fairer, just and safer space for all women. And especially within the tertairy sector, where gender should not but often does still determine results.
If elected, I would also be bringing with me a commitment to incorporating Te Koeke as our guide to building a strong union, a passion for the recognition of Te Tiriti ō Waitangi as the founding document of Aotearoa and a can do approach to mahi that will benefit women in this sector.
I feel that representing the academic members on this committee, would be a great honor so once again I humbly ask for your support.
Kia ora koutou.
