I am seeking election for the position of Te Toi Ahurangi – Taitamariki Māori U35.

I was born and raised in Dunedin where I attended school. During my final year at high school I was awarded the Mana Pounamu Award (Māori young achievers), I used this to completed my Bachelor in Applied Management here at Otago Polytechnic and I am currently working towards my Masters’ in Professional Practice.

As a student I immersed myself in student life and served 3 years as the President of our Students’ Association (OPSA), it was during this time that I built my relationship and love for TEU and everything that TEU stands for.

Over the years I have had time off from my role as Kaiawhina to take time to be with my 3 beautiful tamariki but have been back in the role permanently for just over a year. During this time, I have been lucky to attend Hui ā-Motu as well as Te Ūepu representing our Dunedin Branch and during these hui my passion and excitement to represent our people on issues specific to māori, women and U35’s on our rohe and the country has grown immensely.

I would love to be able to represent my peers at the national level and always available and willing to have a chat !

Ngā mihi,

Rebecca Swindells
