Ka nui ngā mihi ki a koutou i tēnei wā taumaha, e pa anā ki te ngangara o Te Ao (Covid-19).
Ko Jonyne Mariu-Komene tōku ingoa. He uri ahau nō TeWhānau a Apanui me Ngāti Porou me Ngāti Tūwharetoa. Anei taku mihi ki a koutoumo tēnei Wiki o Te Reo Māori.
I come from a long-line of activists and of academics with teaching backgrounds who have encouraged me to stand as an Academic Representative on Te Toi Ahurangi. My role as Whai Ake Māori Mentoring Academic Coordinator has given me the opportunity to instil sound tikanga Māori values combined with strong academic teachings to my Whai Ake tauira – I see those same values in the TEU Whaioranga Blue Print, Te Koeke Tiriti and the union waiata.
My engagement with TEU at Unitec has been instrumental to me standing for this position. I have had tremendous support and encouragement from the Unitec Branch Organiser, Jill Jones and the Branch leadership team. And in particuar Arihia Waenga (former Unitec Te Uepū Māori Rep) a position I now hold and want to return that support to the union.
I believe the values of the Union align with my whānau beliefs and Māori tikanga practices. I look forward to contributing postively to Te Toi Ahurangi and Te Hautū Kahurangi, Tertiary Education Union.
Mauriora ki a tātou.
Noho ora mai
