Restore post-grad allowances urgently

The New Zealand Union of Student Associations has launched a campaign calling on Education Minister, Chris Hipkins to fulfil an election promise and restore postgraduate student allowances.

Until 2013, eligible postgraduate students received a grant of up to $240 a week, but that was scrapped by the previous National-led government.

Labour, along with the Greens and New Zealand First, pledged to restore the postgraduate allowance during the 2017 general election.

NZUSA has launched a petition urging the government to keep its promise at this year’s Budget.

Students will hold a rally outside Parliament on 11 April and deliver the petition to Green MP Chlöe Swarbrick.
