Data on the workplace essential to future of sector

The Tertiary Education Union is asking staff working in tertiary education to keep a look out for a forthcoming survey about what it’s like to work in the sector.

The State of the tertiary education sector survey 2018 will provide a wide range of information about staff’s day to day experience of working in the sector, their workloads and wellbeing.

Data from the survey will be presented to the government to inform their education work plan. To ensure this information reflects what happens in the workplace it is vital that as many staff take part as possible.

Staff’s working conditions are students’ conditions of learning, so to ensure the sector is a rewarding and fulfilling place to work and study, staff need to have their say.

The team of TEU commissioned academics carrying out the survey aim to have collected the data by mid-April 2018. All staff should keep a look out in the coming weeks for details about how to participate.

Vice-chancellors and chief executives have been asked if the survey can be circulated to all staff, not just TEU members to ensure that we get comprehensive coverage of everyone working in the sector.
