TEU members at Southern Institute of Technology (SIT) will take home two pay increases of $1000 each in the next two years if they ratify a new collective agreement today.
TEU branch president Glenn Stridiron says the negotiations last week were very amicable and productive.
“We reached agreement on the issues members in Invercargill and Christchurch identified; salaries, professional development, allowances and redeployment protection for staff in reviews,” Stridiron says.
Union members are voting on the new agreement, which will run for two years.
In the agreement all staff will get the same pay rises: $1000 (pro-rata) from 2 September 2015 and a further $1000 (pro-rata) from 31 August 2016. Their professional development allowance will also increase to $1250.
The agreement also includes s provision in which any staff who redeploy to a new position at the same or lower salary will get an equalisation allowance to preserve their salary.
Stridiron says the proposed new agreement does not include any loss of conditions. He and the bargaining team are recommending TEU members vote in favour of the settlement.
