Employment Relations Act and Holidays Act changes

Check out TEU’s quick explanation and advice on the government’s changes to the Employment Relations Act and the Holidays Act. Most of the changes happen in April and many of them take away people’s rights. If you have questions or concerns please get in touch with your organiser.

Help people who care for the elderly; the minimum wage

Urge the Government to recognise and value the skills of health staff caring for our frail elderly by raising the minimum wage. Support the Nurses organisation and tell Labour Minister, Kate Wilkinson how you feel. Send an eCard!

Release the secret text

TPPWatch, a coalition of New Zealand unions, groups and individuals who oppose the proposed Trans Pacific Partnership free trade agreement has launched a “release the text” sign-on letter to Prime Minister John Key, via its webpage TPPWatch.org. The trade talks are currently taking place in secret, despite many commentators across the political spectrum condemning the secrecy surrounding to the Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement (TPPA) negotiations in Auckland last month.

“The idea that binding and enforceable restrictions on future governments can be signed, sealed and delivered behind our backs is what happens in a dictatorship, not a democracy. If the government is so confident the deal is a good one then it should let us know what it is negotiating,”  said TPPWatch spokesperson Andrew Campbell.
