Te Wānanga o Aotearoa Collective Agreement

Bargaining Update – 8 April 2010

Kia hiwa rā, kia hiwa rā!”  Kia hiwa rā ki tēnei tuku.”  Kia hiwa rā ki tērā tuku.”  Kia oho, kia matara!

Tūnoa ana ngā maunga whakahĀ« i te riu o te whenua i a koutou rā ka ngaro i te ao.”  Ngā manu whititua ka wehe i roto o ngā iwi.”  Ngā poutokomanawa o ngā whare mārire a ō tātou mātua tūpuna.”  I unuhia atu ai koutou te hunga mate e te tapu o Tua Whakarere.

Ki a tātou te hunga ora, e ngā kaihoe o tō tātou waka o Te HautūKahurangi o Aotearoa, tēnā anō rā koutou katoa.

Your bargaining team is thrilled to report that the ratification e-ballot was very successful with in excess of a 65% response rate, no invalid votes, and a big āe mārika YES! to the proposed deal.

Whilst the result was not unanimous, one opposed, the outcome was overwhelmingly in favour of ratifying the new collective agreement (CA) – more than 50% plus one member of those who participated voted, yes!

What next?

We have formally advised Te Wānanga o Aotearoa management of the ratification.”  The CA will come in to force from the date of ratification, 31 March 2010, and will be uploaded on to Te Kete.

When do the new CA clauses take effect?

Although the noho marae payment should have been in place since 1 January 2010, as part of the terms of settlement, the incentive allowance now legally applies as do the new clauses of the CA including salary setting e.g. every member is entitled to have their salary reviewed on anniversary of appointment or whenever there has been a change in their job.

Kia matara, you may still need to inform your employer of these new clauses so please familiarise yourself with your new CA on Te Kete.

Ngā mihi

A special mihi needs to go to Te Aroha Lemke and Gwen Basley for their sterling efforts on your behalf throughout the bargaining round, kia ora rawa atu kourua!

Next bargaining round

Your branch co-presidents, Lani Emery and Te Aroha are busy setting dates for branch committee huihui by video and or teleconference before the end of May and by then it will nearly be time to prepare for the 2010-2011 bargaining round.

Joining the TEU

New members are welcome to join us at anytime.”  And for the first time, as a result of your kaha and manawanui, the wage increases apply across all staff in the Wānanga irrespective of which union, TEU Te HautūKahurangi o Aotearoa or TUIA.

Ko te ara hou tēnei.”  Kia toka te manawa o te rangi e tūnei.”  Kia toka, kia toka, kia mahaki mārire ki tēnei ope e!

Mauri ora ki a tātou

Nā tō koutou rōpūwhakahaere kirimana
