Call for Fiji Govt to reinstate Tevita Koroi

12 May 2009 / Comments Off / in News/by TEU

Tevita Koroi, president of COPE

Please support FTA President, Tevita Koroi, by signing the form at the bottom of this page

Fijian Teachers’ Association President, Mr. Tevita Koroi was dismissed this month (May 2009) from his position as principal of Nasinu Secondary School. Mr. Koroi was suspended from his school in December 2008, after his comments at the launch of Movement for Democracy in Fiji (MD Fiji). He was officiating at the launch as master of ceremonies in his capacity as FTA president, which is affiliated to the Fiji Islands Council of Trade Unions, and made a comment that angered the interim government.

In his comments he said it was two years since the December coup and it was time that Fiji returned to democracy and parliamentary rule. He also said that the interim government must take the country to free and fair elections as soon as possible.

As well as being the president of the Fijian Teachers Association Mr. Koroi is also president of the Council of Pacific Education (COPE), which is a regional organisation of education unions from the South Pacific Region including Australian Unions the AEU and IEU and New Zealand unions, NZEI te Riu Roa, PPTA and TEU. COPE is a sub-branch of Education International‘s (EI) Asia and Pacific regional division.

You can support Tevita Koroi by completing the form below to the Fijian government, calling for his reinstatement.

This campaign is supported by the following Council of Pacific Education affiliates:
